Avoiding the stairs is not a long-term plan.

One in four adults over 65 falls every year — and the stairs are one of the most dangerous places in the home. Whether it's a parent who now sleeps on the couch to avoid going upstairs, or a recovering surgery patient who can't manage the steps to the bathroom, a stairlift gives back full, safe access to every level of the home. ClearStep Home Safety installs stairlifts throughout the Grand Rapids metro and West Michigan — starting with a free, no-pressure in-home measurement.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a stairlift cost in Grand Rapids?

Straight stairlift installations typically range from $2,500 to $5,000 depending on the unit and stair length. Curved stairlifts are more — usually $8,000–$15,000+ because the rail is custom-built. We quote both options in writing at the free evaluation, so there are no surprises.

How long does stairlift installation take?

Most straight stairlifts are installed in 2–4 hours. Curved stairlifts take longer because the custom rail needs to be manufactured first. We'll give you a specific timeline at the evaluation.

Does Medicare cover stairlifts?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts. However, some Medicare Advantage plans and Medicaid waiver programs in Michigan may cover part of the cost. We can help you understand your options during the evaluation.

What's the difference between a straight and curved stairlift?

A straight stairlift runs on a pre-made rail and fits any single-flight staircase without a turn or landing. A curved stairlift uses a custom-fabricated rail built to fit your specific staircase shape. Curved units cost more and take longer to arrive, but they're the only option for stairs with turns or intermediate landings.

Can a stairlift be installed on narrow stairs?

Most stairlifts require a minimum stair width of about 28 inches. We measure during the free evaluation to confirm your stairs qualify before any commitment is made.

Do you serve areas outside Grand Rapids?

Yes — we serve all of West Michigan including Holland, Muskegon, Grand Haven, Kalamazoo, and surrounding communities.
